The first month postpartum is a lovely and important time for mother and baby to bond. It is critical that the mother have the opportunity to rest and recover. Birthing is an exhausting and draining experience even when all goes well, and many women need much more support for their recovery than our modern culture offers.
Traditional Chinese Medicine calls this first month after birth the “Golden Month” and recognizes how essential it is to care for the mother so that she can care for the child.
The loss of blood from birthing can lead to a loss of vitality, and a new mom can find it to be a very vulnerable time as she faces the demands of learning to care for a new baby, perhaps while still caring for older children.
